Greek Seasoning

Do you ever come across recipes that call for certain spice blends that you just don't have? I have been noticing more and more often lately that I have recipes that call for a certain type of blend and I'm not interesting in head out to the store to drop $4-5 on a jar of seasoning that I may only use once or twice. I'm grateful to the magic of google, because I can almost always find a solution to the problem by finding recipes for spice blends that use the types of spices that I am more likely to have in my cupboard. Then, I scale the recipe down and just make a little bit at a time so I don't have jars and jars of spice blends that I rarely use.

One of these types of spice blends is Greek Seasoning. We like Greek food around here but I still don't find it economical to buy a jar of Greek Seasoning blend. Instead, I make it myself and have it on hand to sprinkle on chicken, beef, lamb or pork.

Greek Seasoning
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. dried oregano
1 1/2 tsp. onion powder
1 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. black pepper
1 tsp. dried parsley flakes
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp. cornstarch
1 tsp. beef flavored bouillon granules

Combine all spices in an empty spice jar and shake to combine. Store in the cupboard for up to three months. I often make just half of this blend to give me enough for a few recipes. Are there any spice blends you love to make yourself or are looking for?

  1. I use Cavenders seasoning no salt one. Great flavor! Pretty cheap to I think.
